    Foods don’t speed up metabolism, lean muscle speeds up metabolism. Think of lean muscle as a powerful engine that uses lots of fuel. The way to get more lean muscle is to lift weights that challenge the muscle fibers enough to bring them to fatigue. The best way to fuel the body so it creates more lean muscle and uses up (burns off) fat stores as fuel is to eat a whole, unprocessed, balanced diet that has balanced representation from all of the macronutrients. Muscle burns calories but fat stores calories. The more lean muscle mass a person has compared to fat mass, the more calories that person will burn – even at rest.
