It seemed like gel manicures were the answer to our prayers–the chip-free, smudge-less gel polish dries in two minutes flat and maintains an unworldly shine…for weeks! We’re sold on the concept, but not so much on the $40-per-application salon bill.
So, when we heard that Couture Gel Nail Polish released a kit which provides you with “everything you need for a salon-quality gel nail polish manicure at home”–we couldn’t help but wonder: was this the perfect ten?
The kit retails for $129 and contains 3 shades of polish, a base coat, a top coat, a salon nail care kit, a zippered carrying case, a UV lamp and an instructional DVD. The manufacturer promises “easy application,” a “2-minute dry time that results in diamond-hard nails,” “a 3-week hold that continues to look fresh until you take it off,” and “no smearing, chipping, smudging, or scratching off — ever.” Did they nail it with this one? My nails a re a mess! i need all of the help that i can get. I’ve never used gels before, but I’ve heard of them. I usually don’t polish my nails with colors that are too visible because it comes off too quickly – my hands are working hands and they look it.
I even had a guy call me over (i worked in a restaurant). He and his girlfriend were arguing about how much time she spent on her nails and he asked to see mine. When I reluctantly displayed my ragged, chipped nails, he said “See! THOSE are working hands!”. I wasn’t sure how to take that, although in his mind it was a complement, it was embarassing at the same time.

I’ve had 2 of these manicures in the salon and have been looking into buying a kit. Through my research I see that there are 2 kinds: UV light and LED light. I think UV is better which I see is what this kit is. I currently have nice nails and don’t want to ruin them with acrylics but hate how quickly regular polish chips. I think Gel is the way to go for me and home kit is prefered to save some cost. Would love to review this and share my findings to include ease of use, staying power and ease of removal. I always feel so much more finished and attractive when my fingernails are polished. I do my own manicures and pedicures; however, I have given up on keeping my fingernails polished except for special occasions because mine chip, flake, and look horrible in no time even with base and top coats. I would be an awesome test subject. In 30 days i fly to st croix for my sons wedding. Between the hardship(on nails) of travelling, the sun, sand and especially the salt water(inevitably turns regular polish yellow in a few days), if my nails look good with this new product for the whole time-it would be miraculous and the ultimate advertissement for the product. Sometimes, I pay $50 to have my nails done and a day later I bang one nail into something and have to go back in to have that one nail repaired. Its been so long since I had beautiful nails. At 61 ,
for me its either spending money on grocerys or having beautiful nails .
It seems for so many woman of today,they always
have to make a choice and beauty isn’t one of them.

I have been a devotee of the traditional manicure done in a salon for many years. And I have developed a warm relationship with my manicurist. But, I have noticed gel wearers and their nails really look glamorous, whereas I have to replace my polish at least once weekly just to get by. My salon does not offer gel manicures — at least not yet — so if you pick me to test and the hype is all it is said to be, I would be happy to stimulate the economy and encourage my salon to branch out into the new nail frontier.

I used to go to a nail salon back in the days when I was working to have my sorry little nails get an uplift…nothing I do improves what natural nails I have, so my only recourse was to go to the nail salon. Ever since my first gel manicure, I refuse to “go back” to anything else. I prefer it even over acrylic nails. My nails are stronger than with a traditional manicure and it lasts up to 3 weeks–the typical duration is 2 weeks. I love, love, LOVE my gel manicures and with tip pay $45 every two weeks. Although my visit to the salon is something I like to do “FOR ME”, I would not mind switching that to a salon pedicure if I could do my gel manicure myself!

Ugh! I rarely do my nails anymore and can’t afford the salon rates. Base coat … let it dry. One coat of color … let it dry about half-way. Add another coat of color … let it dry. THEN add a topcoat to protect it from chipping … let THAT dry. Dedicating a half hour to an hour to do my nails and in two or three days, I’m doing touch-ups already! A hard coat nail polish that really does last? Sign me up!

I would love to test this product! My husband and I have been remodeling our house for 3 1/2 years now and it is really rough on my nails even though I wear leather gloves. I have just about given up on having nice manicured hands because of the work I’m having to do. This last weekend we were jackhammering up some places in the master bath to move pipes and I had to dig out chipped up concrete with my hands. I still have a bunch of concrete chips to remove and this would be an excellent test for the gel products!

When I tried doing my nails prior to this, I was frustrated by the chipping etc. But in the last 3 months, I was introduced to gel and I am truly amazed.
